Ackerman is a leading producer of Loir wines, both with and without bubbles. The house was founded in 1811, when Jean-Baptiste Ackerman settled in Saumur at the age of just 20. Originating from Brussels, he saw, after traveling abroad, that Saumur was a perfect place: the vineyards in the area were known for their tingling-fresh wines, thanks to the very calcareous soils dominated by peat stone. While the wines could also easily be shipped thanks to the presence of a natural port on the Loire, a bit downstream from Saumur.
